WBJDF as an organisation and more about us
The West Bengal Junior Doctor's Front, an organization born out of the movement demanding Justice for Abhaya and fighting for a society where no other Abhaya happens again. WBJDF is a body of junior doctors who have come together to educate, organize and agitate against the forces of threat, suppression and gross misconduct that plagues the healthcare system of West Bengal. The junior doctors of various colleges and hospitals of West Bengal came together and formed this organisation after conducting a General Body Meeting on 16 August inside RG Kar Medical College Hospital where the ghastly incident took place on 9th of August, 2024.
Our Vision
The experience of waging a fight against every section that stands in the way of justice alongside people from all walks of life, from all regions of this state, this nation and the globe has taught us some important lessons.
Firstly, this fight to attain proper justice for Abhaya is a long one with numerous obstacles in the way. Starting from the apathetic stance of the state and central governments, the nonchalant attitude of CBI's investigation and the delayed hearing dates by the Supreme Court every door has disappointed us countless times. At the same time, the support of innumerable people, from all walks of life, has filled our hearts and rejuvenated our struggle at every turn. It has opened our eyes to the collective rage that has found its voice through this movement.
We envision a future where Abhaya gets the justice she deserves, where our healthcare institutions reach their potential of being the pinnacles of healing and learning, where the voiceless have a voice. We aim to create the safest spaces in these institutions for healthcare workers, students, patients, their caregivers, everyone. We, junior doctors, are significant stakeholders within the health system – bridging the gap between people and the delivery of healthcare service, putting the onus on us, to speak for the people, and speak so loudly that even the deaf may hear.
